homemade quivers, CSFF, Devon Howard, and #singlefins
well this is it. these are my two homemade surfboards. the yellow one is my second shape and by far the best. I’ve ridden it with great success in waist to overhead point breaks. while it may not be great at hard re-direct turns, it sure as hell hauls ass and makes fast waves seem [...]

Tom Neilson ‘Tommy Evans’ model review
it’s very likely that if I still lived in Florida I would mostly only get boards from Tom Neilson. why? why not! Tom is a master shaper with over 30 years of shaping experience. he surfs way better ‘n me. he can shape anything. and he works with just about every available material and technology [...]

Ol’ Yeller: a tale of lifetime friendship
most material things I could give two shits about. but every once inna while there is an object which happens to somehow create -by its simple existence. Ol’ Yeller, seen here exiting my house beneath E’s arm, is a perfect example of a ‘thing’ with the power to bring together and bind friendships. E gave [...]

wide load fin installation
I was hoping to laminate the bottom today but opted to prep carefully and allow the fin boxes to set fully instead. I ran out of time. I still have not decided on the lamination colour -opaque white? or yellow tint. I guess I’ll know once it’s mixid and ready to pour.

Saint John, New Brunswick
Moe and I explored a little of St. John, New Brunswick while B did her thing at the university. here’s a few photos of downtown. lucky for us the tide was high so we avoided the dreaded smell of low tide Bay of Fundy. back in Halifax now -on the job hunt and looking forward [...]
lights and vehicles
my B just gave new life to this old lamp. I like how the photo captured some of her artwork too. and here is the latest fluid transport vehicle design template. in a few days I’ll take planner to foam and this thing will come to life. big ups to all those designers whose ideas [...]
sunday morning flakes
I found these snow flakes clinging like barnacles to the sun room windows this morning. they hang there in the calm wind watching over the Tufts Cove candy cane towers, whose mouths spew coal fumes day and night to keep our lights from going out.
closer
getting closer to finishing my first board. I need some warm air to glass it. it’s mid January. who am I kidding. patience.

morning sightings
stoked to sleep in until 6:45 today. yesterday was a long day. I took a few photos yesterday of the scenery. the spot where I surfed was probably really fun after the tide started to drop. these photos were taken at peak high tide. it was still a tonne of fun. if you look close [...]
sunday afternoon
I’ve been learning a little from B about how to take photos. it helps to have a good camera with real lenses. a few I took this afternoon. lemon purple Japanese maple tulip greenough high aspect ration fin In 1962, George designed the first flexible, high ratio fin that was based on the tail fin [...]

saturday at the beach
met up with the boys at dawn. the waves looked good, if a little closed out. took out ‘ol yeller and rode a couple close-outs before I lost her in the soup and had to swim in. grabbed the log sans leash and paddled right back out only to loose it too, trying to reach [...]
