shock. imagine the most grotesque and horrific experience you’ve ever had. multiply it by a million. it doesn’t even compare to what the group of 72 Central and South American migrants went through in northern Mexico. they were all murdered –massacred ruthlessly. why? because they refused to work for the drug cartel that’d intercepted them on their northern pilgrimage.
the drug war is complete and absolute bullshit. if you want to do something to end the violence that plagues Mexico then consider the substances you consume. the cartels in Mexico are fighting over the everyday American people’s money –the money that free Americans use to buy weed, coke, meth or whatever drug they favor.
in a world replete with absurdities –the BP oil spill –Katrina 5 years on, daily bombings in Baghdad, rape and genocide in the Congo –should I go on – this just ads to the heap. of course I am not supposed to be troubled by this. it is outside of my reach, my influence. I am only to feel sympathy –if that. I am not to feel ashamed or angry about my humanity.

Word. Every time I hear earth conscious hippies and locovore hipsters go on about how much fun they had doing lines of coke the other night it makes my stomach turn. I guess it takes that much tunnel vision for the average person to live in North American cities. The 100 mile diet should apply to everything one consumes, not just foodstuffs.
100% agree with farlon’s point.
In response to what you wrote, Ras, from what I understand this started off with cartels offloading immigrants from the freight train that brings so many from southern mex up through the north. They offloaded several hundred, and those who couldn’t pay – or didn’t cough up phone numbers in the states – were those who were killed.
Yesterday’s WSJ has a great article about the follow up. Great in an informative sense; its pretty harrowing overall.
